Privacy policy

Who we are

Eclipse is an unofficial, third-party launcher, online lobby and map generator for the free game Beyond All Reason. It is a small independent project run by Rowan Morse and is not affiliated with the Beyond All Reason team.

The short version

  • We do not sell your data and we do not use it for ad personalization.
  • The Eclipse download does not scan or upload files from your computer. It installs only Eclipse and the Java runtime it needs, and nothing else.
  • An account needs a name, an email address and a password. Your name, country flag, game results and Prime status are public inside Eclipse.
  • The website uses Google Analytics to count visits and downloads. Visitors from the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are counted without analytics or advertising cookies.
  • Payments go through Stripe. We never see or store card numbers.

Your Eclipse account

When you create an account in the launcher we store your account name, your email address and your password. The password is kept by the lobby server only in hashed form. We use your email address for account emails such as password resets, which are sent through our email provider, Resend.

When you sign in, the lobby server looks up the country of your IP address to show a flag next to your name. It does not store your IP address with your account.

Public inside Eclipse and on this website: your account name, your country flag, whether you have Prime, the games you played in Eclipse rooms (map, teams, results and in-game statistics) and the leaderboards built from them.

When a new account is created, its name and the creator code it supports (if any) are posted to a private Discord channel that only the Eclipse team can read.

Chat

Messages in the public main chat channel are stored (the latest 500) so that the launcher can show the last hour of chat when someone signs in. Private messages and chat inside game rooms are not stored.

Eclipse Prime and payments

Prime is paid through Stripe (or PayPal, where offered). Stripe handles your card details; we never receive them. We store the account the payment is for, the payment date, amount and Stripe reference numbers, and the Stripe customer number, so that we can add Prime to the right account and handle refunds. If a payment cannot be matched to an account, we also keep the email address Stripe gives us for it, so that we can sort it out with you.

If you use a creator code, the creator it belongs to gets a share of your payments. Creators see how many sales and how much they earned, not who paid.

Bug reports

When you send a bug report from the launcher, we store what you send: your account name, your text, any screenshots you attach, the launcher version and your operating system version. A short summary (ticket number, account name and the start of the text, without screenshots) is posted to a private Discord channel for the Eclipse team.

The website

The website uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits, downloads and which pages and buttons are used. Google signals and ad personalization are turned off. Visitors from the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are counted without analytics or advertising cookies (Google consent mode). Elsewhere, Google Analytics sets the cookies _ga and _ga_MW246L42MR.

We advertise Eclipse with Google Ads and use Google Analytics to measure how many downloads and installs the ads bring. Outside the regions above, when you click Download, the website sends your Google Analytics identifiers to our server. The server keeps them in memory for up to 3 days, together with a one-way hash of your network address (not the address itself), so that the first start of the launcher can be counted as an install in Google Analytics. The launcher only sends a random install number and the platform (Windows, Linux or Mac). Only total counts are saved.

If you sign in on the website, a sign-in cookie (eclipse_session) keeps you signed in for up to 14 days. If you arrive through a creator link, the creator code is kept in your browser for that visit only, so that the download carries it.

The site is delivered through Cloudflare. Like any web server, ours keeps short, rotating access logs (IP address, time and the page requested) for security and to keep the service running.

Who we share data with

Only these services, and only for what is described above:

  • Stripe (and PayPal, where offered): payments.
  • Google Analytics and Google Ads: website and download measurement.
  • Resend: account emails such as password resets.
  • Cloudflare: delivering the website.
  • Discord: private notifications to the Eclipse team.
  • The company that hosts our server.

We do not sell your data. We may disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

  • Accounts, Prime and payment records: while the account exists, and payment records as long as tax and accounting rules require.
  • Public chat: the latest 500 messages.
  • Game history: the latest 500 games.
  • Bug reports: until they are resolved, or earlier if you ask us to delete them.
  • Download and install matching: up to 3 days, in memory only.
  • Server access logs: a short rotating window.

Your choices and rights

You can ask us to see, correct or delete your account and the data tied to it: email [email protected] from the email address on the account. Deleting an account also removes its Prime. Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under the law (for example the GDPR or the CCPA), and we will honor them.

You can block Google Analytics with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or your browser's privacy settings.

Children

Eclipse is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, write to [email protected] and we will remove it.

Changes

If this policy changes, we update it on this page and change the date at the top.
