ECLIPSE
Map styles

Eighteen kinds of Beyond All Reason map

A style is the shape of the land: where the hills, cliffs, water and ramps go. Pick one and Eclipse makes a new map of that shape every time — same rules, different ground. Here is what each one plays like.

Open land

Rolling ground, soft hills, a few plateaus. The map most games are played on.

8×8 to 32×32 · 2 to 16 players, 2 teams up to FFA

Valley

A low valley between two heights. Whoever owns the high ground owns the artillery.

16×16 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Land bridge

Two land masses, water between them, and one or two strips of ground that join them.

24×24 to 32×32 · 2 to 4 teams

Little mountain

One mountain in the middle with ramps up it. King of the hill.

8×8 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Mountain range

Ranges that divide the map, passes that join it. Bots over the top, tanks through the gaps.

8×8 to 20×20 · up to 16 players

Multilevel

Terraces. Several levels of flat ground stacked up the map, with ramps between them.

8×8 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Drop plateau

Plateaus with sheer drops. Expansions sit up on plateaus reached by a ramp or two.

8×8 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Centre lake

A lake in the middle, land all round it. Ships in the middle, flanks on the shore.

12×12 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Fractal land

Noise-shaped land: broken, uneven, full of small heights and hollows. No two games alike.

8×8 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Fractal plateau

The fractal land, raised into plateaus. More cliffs, more ramps, more levels than Fractal Land.

8×8 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

One island

One big island in the sea. Everybody spawns on land; the sea is the flank nobody watches.

12×12 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Big islands

A few large islands, far apart. No land route between them. Naval, with real bases.

24×24 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Small islands

An archipelago. Many small islands, lots of water, every unit that floats is useful.

24×24 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Fractal navy

Fractal terrain with the sea let in. Coasts, inlets and channels nobody planned.

8×8 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Rivers

Rivers cut across the land. Crossings are the chokes; the water itself is a lane.

8×8 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Rivers and oceans

Rivers inland and sea at the edges. Land, shallows and open water in one map.

8×8 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Flooded

Mostly water with islands of land. A naval map where the land is what is left.

12×12 to 32×32 · up to 16 players

Setonish

Two land halves and a strait between them, in the spirit of Seton’s Clutch. Navy in the middle.
